Not to be confused with New Canaan, Connecticut, Canaan/ Falls Village is a place where people come to enjoy life in a New England country setting; where neighbor helps neighbor, the schools are excellent, the virtues of small-town life still exist and this town’s long, colorful history is cherished and preserved.

Named for the biblical town of Canaan, much of the Housatonic State Forest is located in Canaan. The railroad in 1868 brought many of NYC’s wealthy residents to the quiet, peaceful area. They built magnificent summer homes and eventually many of these summer visitors settled year round. One visit and you will feel that you’ve been transported back to the mid-1800s. The churches, railroad depot, streets and houses have maintained their 19th century integrity.
